the sidewalk is
too narrow
so i
walk alone
observing their chatter
words carried to me
by
the wind
nipping my cheeks
stinging my face
numbing my grin
i try to get closer
to hear the conversation
but i can’t
without stepping on their heels
so
although i am with them
i walk alone
