Hi! My name is Hannah Gumpert (she/her), and I’m a member of the class of 2027 at New West Charter in Los Angeles, CA. I’ve loved reading and writing for as long as I can remember, and I am passionate about social justice and Judaism. I’m also interested in science—my dream is to be a geneticist by day, writer by night. I have been published in several magazines including Joseph’s Inkwell and the Paideia Institute’s academic journal In Media Res, and I received an American Voices medal from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Last year, I participated in the Rising Voices fellowship, and my editorial experience through jGirls+ helped me create a literary magazine at my school. Our aim isto nurture and empower students interested in creative writing and art.

Latin has consistently ranked high on my list of favorite classes throughout high school, and I belong to my school’s chapter of the National Junior Classical League, with which I go to Latin conventions and contribute to a community breathing life into a dead language. Also, I love theater! I’ve been acting with Shakespeare Youth Festival LA for almost a decade, and I enjoy going to shows across the city with my friends using our TeenTix passes. When I’m not absorbed in a book or frantically typing, you can find me playing with my two little brothers, filming Shakespeare spoofs with friends, or teaching Torah at my synagogue’s Hebrew school. I’m so excited to continue my journey as a part of the jGirls+ community!
