A Remembrance

236
A cluster of white flowers and green leaves.

There once was a girl
With the ocean in her eyes
With flowers in her hair
With rage of a dagger
And the world gently wrapped around her

But she cut her hair
And sliced her tongue on glass words
She taped her eyes shut
Blocked out the things that once illuminated her soft smile

She let all her moments of sore stomachs from laughing fits
Her enveloping hugs and honeyed whispers
Fall through the cracks in her brain
She let the red-eyed tears and locked doors pull her away

Succumbed to her idolized past self

Rested on a pedestal of doctored memories
And careful erasure
She wept at her feet
Mourning her loss

She cried over old photos

And prayed to turn back time
To when she could do it all
To when she was it all
